3D Modeling and Printing for Everyone

Today, 3D printing is available to everyone through relatively inexpensive printers or through printing services like Shapeways. But designing 3D content using traditional software and a 2D interface, like a mouse and keyboard, is still a complicated and unintuitive process.
MakeVR is a 3D modeling application built around two key components: an innovative 3D multi-touch interface that replaces the traditional mouse and keyboard inputs for all functions and a professional-grade CAD engine. On top of this foundation we’ve added real-time collaboration for up to five remote users. And of course, everything created in MakeVR can be saved in any standard 3D printing format, then, with a click of a button, sent to either a local 3D printer or to a 3D printing service like Shapeways.
With MakeVR, the old challenges of 3D modeling are gone. MakeVR’s 3D multi-touch allows you to use your hands to interact naturally with the virtual world, freeing you from the constraints of complicated, traditional menu-based modeling programs. Imagine being able to physically reach into a 3D scene to grab, interact with, and modify CAD-based solid models just like you manipulate objects in the real world. Now imagine, with the click of a button, sending your creation to a local 3D printer or to a printing service to bring it into the real world. MakeVR, with its natural and intuitive 3D multi-touch interface, allows you to do all of this and more.

3D Multi-Touch

MakeVR’s unprecedented ease-of-use is enabled by a 3D input technology that can track the exact position and orientation of each hand at all times. The full version of MakeVR includes two of our STEM System controllers for this purpose. These low-latency wireless motion trackers detect your every move to give you total control of your models and the environment using natural motions in 3D space.
With two independently tracked hands in MakeVR, you can translate (move), scale, and rotate your environment in the same way you use 2D multi-touch on your smartphone, or tablet – but better. With MakeVR, you can reach out and grab a point in space and use it to drag the entire world around: up, down, left, right, backward, and forward. If you grab two points, you can move your hands closer or further apart to scale the environment up or down and rotate it in any direction: yaw, pitch, and/or roll. Scaling in MakeVR is a powerful feature because it allows you to position yourself anywhere in the environment at whatever scale best suits the current task – so you’re always working in your comfort zone. You can very easily go from placing buildings in your virtual world to scaling yourself down to work on the hinges of doors. And with one simple motion, you can simultaneously scale/translate/rotate yourself to any point in your environment. This type of viewpoint control delivers efficiency that is simply unattainable with any traditional 2D interface.

Full Immersion

The STEM System™ is a wireless motion tracking platform for video games, virtual reality (VR), and more. It enables players to interact naturally and intuitively with games by tracking full position and orientation at all times, whether at the desktop or throughout the entire living room.
This is the next big step in Sixense motion tracking technology – with advancements including longer range, wireless operation, and better tracking performance at all ranges. The STEM System will support up to five wireless motion trackers, or STEMs, for full position and orientation tracking of the head and hands, the entire body, or other configurations.

Technology and Features

Sixense developed the electromagnetic motion tracking technology that is used in consumer products worldwide. The STEM System represents the next generation of this technology, with a new architecture that delivers longer range, lower latency, and better performance at all ranges.

No drift

Because Sixense technology does not rely on inertial sensors (gyroscopes and accelerometers) for position tracking, the measured position of each STEM will not drift over time, whether you move quickly, slowly, or not at all.

Low latency

Patented Sixense latency technology is used in the STEM System – giving it the lowest latency of any wireless consumer motion control system.

One-to-one tracking

This means that the STEM System tracks both position and orientation on all three axes for each STEM. These data are very easy for developers to incorporate into software applications via the Sixense SDK.

No line of sight required between STEMs and the Base

You have the freedom to turn around, put the STEMs in your pockets or stand behind your couch – all without interrupting the tracking performance.
