Thread: Any news about Source integration?

Unhappy Any news about Source integration?

Just searched the website and forums for information about the additional delay but I can't find anything after the post where it was postponed to E3 which is almost a month ago and any information on the frontpage disappeared. Is the Steam- and Source engine integration still in QA or was this project abandoned completely? Is there any beta (besides TF2) for anything I can opt-in?

I'm one of those who waited in anticipation to play Half Life 2 and L4D2 with motion controls but as time elapses, the fear grows we will wait forever.

Just want to have any update on the progress, any news, like, what takes that long? Any current ETA? Can't sixense just release some alpha/beta? I don't care if it's not perfect and I don't care if there isn't a graphical menu to set up things. I just want to play hl2 with a floating crosshair.

I'd forgotten about this. Such a long long time ago. The initial prophecy talked about some kind of integration within the Steam of the Mighty Valve thus forming a Holy Trinity for motion gaming. But there's no evidence that this ever existed, and is thought to have been just the mad ramblings of the prophet Dan.
    -here endeth the lesson.

As big of a fan as I am of Sixense's support thus far, and the Hydra in general, this is CRAZY. E3 was nearly a MONTH ago, and that was the DELAYED release date! What happened, Sixense??? I still really want to play Left 4 Dead 2 (and Half-Life, for that matter) with direct integration; would could possibly be taking so long?

The Playstation Move thing is pretty silly too...why would you be working with Sony and the Playstation, when they already have their own motion controller? Furthermore, why would PC gamers (you know, your *entire* user base) care even a spec about some sort of collaboration with Playstation? We don't want that...we want more integration for PC games, obviously. This is a PC gaming motion peripheral, which is just one of the features that makes it so unique. I'm a pretty patient guy (I'm a Valve fan, after all), and the initial one month delay was fine...but another month without any info as to why, or when?

Don't get me wrong, I still appreciate you guys; the way you communicate with your users over the forum is fantastic, and not often seen in this day 'n' age. I'm just sad to see that fade. I really, really hope we get integration soon for many games. Hopefully this delay will be worth it, and you're doing more than just 'ensuring a stable product' for Half-Life 2 and Left 4 Dead 2. Any information would be appreciated as to things we might expect in the future.

Sixense mainly works with software and technology. Basically, anything made for the Hydra can be transferred to the Move.

Let's just wait for CS: GO.

Because, come to think of it, it benefits motion controls' adoption across the whole videogame industry.

Games made for PS3 with motion controls in mind can be made on PC, and viceversa.

Was it that hard/expensive to develop and provide the technology for a new motion controller for consoles that outdoes the originals?
(somtimes new reply notification emails don't reach my inbox, please let me know if you think it has happened)

Agree with this. I also see adoption of motion controllers being far more likely on the consoles then they are on PC. Mouse and keyboard is still the most accurate way of playing the vast majority of current style of games. This isn't going to change until we have games that require some extra movements only possible with Hydra like controllers. However, the Hydra completely blows away a gamepad.

As you say, games with motion controller support might well make there way to the PC. If motion controls become more ubiquitous on the PS3 then it will most likely benefit us on the PC too.

Major regression, but a large L4D2 update containing “other surprises and details” coming out the 24th! Here's for hoping that's relevant to this forum!
