Thread: MCEditor

    Post MCEditor

    Please find MCEditor v0.1 here:
    http://s3.amazonaws.com/MCEditor/MCEditor.7z

It's a very early release so a few features are missing
and it might have a bug or two but we hope that it will
    still prove useful.
Please post any questions, suggestions, bug reports
    in this thread.

We'll keep updating this post on each new release.

    Enjoy!

    (DonPsycho & Zoltan)

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

    ----- v0.1 -----

    What's new:

    Everything!

    Known issues:

    - Loading non MCEditor created MCE files is not supported at this time.
    (May or may not work.)

    - The ESC key can not be bound.

    - Binding the "+" key (non numpad version) shows up as "none" in the
    related input field.

Checked it out, I think it has a smooth UI for the most part and the help dialogue in the corner is... well, helpful!

Cannot for the life of me bind ESC to a button with the editor. Also the actual MCE document has some very... strange formatting. Anyway, mostly just wanted to report the ESC key thing

    Looks good.

Just tried to load the FalloutNV.mce and i got an error.

There is an error in XML document (38,20)
Instance validation error: 'fps' is not a valid value for mouseModeType

On the bindings box, for the key, if you click both left and right mouse (or anything else) the box gets too big and goes to 2 lines and the description cant be seen.
Also just a quick recommendation, on the key box, have it change color or something to show its been selected, i clicked it a few times and had Left Mouse as the key, then i typed a key in and had Left Mouse + a as i wasnt sure it was selected
If you can, have it detect any/all keys pressed at that moment so pressing a will input a, then pressing c will override a with c, but pressing a and c at the same time will input a + c (cant say ive ever done this though so not sure how easy itll be)
The way you have it of re entering a character/mouse click to remove it took me a while to figure out and isnt overly intuitive
Inputting '+' key also comes up as none
A clear key would also work great, just to clear the key binding rather than clear everything.

You might also come up with the initial problem i had of new options being added and how to deal with them.
Im sure you have your own ideas, but a simple advanced button on each tab would work very well.
Those that dont know what it is use the default settings displayed, those who know what there doing can add/modify the advanced settings.
That way you wont need to change around much of the current layout

In regards to the XML probably not a good idea to output everything if its the default value. The XML could get very big very quick.
Just output the required items or anything thats been changed.
Cant say as i see any formatting errors, but that could be the editor used

Thank you guys the bug reports, keep them coming!

    - ESC binding: Good point.

    - Strange formatting: Low priority.

    - Loading official MCEs: We do not support non-MEditor
made file loading at this time. (Sorry, I should have indicated
    this in the first post.)
Later on loading such files will be possible but any
unsupported features will be discarded on save to avoid hidden
    stuff affecting input behavior.

    - Forced single line key input fields: Good point.

    - Recoding indicator: Good point.

    - Non sequential key recording: Good point.

    - "+" as none: Good point.

    - Per inputfield clear button: Good point.

    - Advanced button: We don't aim to support all possible
MCE features. Instead we intend to focus on speed and ease
of use, covering the most commonly used 80% of the available
    functionality.

The official MCE editor seems to deal with every aspect of the
MCE format so you might want to try that. Not exactly ideal for
a casual user but with some knowledge of the underlying tech
    it's quite straightforward to use.

    - Outputing defaults: We'll look into it.

    Thanks again for the feedback!

Awesome work guys. Feel free to email or pm me with any questions you might have.

I love how up until a couple of weeks ago users didn't have a gui editor option and now they have 3

    This looks really great!

The alert that I had two directions bound to the same key was quite handy.

I initially noticed it doesn't have all the super advanced settings or group bindings that the the Motion Creator Editor Alpha has, but it looks really nice and pro and easy to use. You could probably add extra advanced settings buttons (like key repeats, or when to trigger keys) in the dialog that pops up after you click on the thing you want to change.

I tried making a mce and motion creator 2 yelled at me on four accounts:
    Error: bad condition parsing quick_bindings
    Error: bad condition parsing quick_bindings
    Error: unknown condition type "key"
    Error: unknown condition type "mouse_button"

Here's the MCE if you wanna check it out. I'll leave it online for a week or so. http://gameone.us/public/ra2test.mce

So what are you guys currently working on? I would like to see binding groups next up.

I'm not sure when we can work on MCEditor again, we're swamped with real life stuff.
I'll let you guys know when that changes.
