Talking Hey Sixense Devs Contact Hawken Devs!!! & Problem..

you guys need if you haven't already to get something in the works with the developers of hawken because it could make full use of the hydras button and motion sensing perks! ive been waiting on a decent mech game like this for years so i already have the thread going on there forum, so the more support the better!!!
here's the link to the thread peoples, the more hydra ideas the better
    http://forums.adhesivegames.com/viewtop ... 5373#p5373

    and the bad news....
not sure if you guys are aware but in the latest october issue of maximum pc, there editor named alex castle wrote an article on the hydra.. too sum it up, made it sound like he threw it to the curb.
im pretty upset on how this guy even presented the column, its like he wrote it last minute before its monday deadline while hungover. yes, its that bad and not even correct in certain areas.
im personally emailing the comments section of max pc and giving them my pissed off two sense since that's all i can really do, but if you guys have other means of correcting there ***k up i'd get on them with a quickness.

I'm super excited for Hawken, we could reach out to those devs. First though why not share some ideas of how you'd like to see the Hydra implemented?

We read the article by Alex Castle and provided him with information he may not have had at the time of writing the article. Thanks for your concern .

glad to here to hear from you dan

that article took me by surprise that’s for sure being a long time fan of maximum pc. hopefully they get back to you all at sixense and put a real review in, o0o wait they decided to place 10 pages of digital camera crud in that issue.. haha okay i’m done =P

now onto the good stuff, hawken!

now being a long time mech combat fan along the lines of the armored core series and earth siege II, i think being the first mech game i ever played which came out way back when? well i just recently had hawken brought to my attention from a member of the asus rog forum and when i loaded up the latest trailer from aug 31st. i watched in jaw dropped amazement. i’ve already mentioned the hydra in hawken’s forum at the link above but that’s really just touching the surface of what immersive combination the hydra could offer to the game play of hawken.

what i noticed from the trailer was the boost mechanics in hawken and instantly thought of the hydra, ha that’s how i ended up on this kick. anyone who has played the armored core series would recognize this mechanic. threw the hydra it could be used in the direct response to a players reflex of what was happening in game. for instance an opponent launched a swarm of rockets at you, traditionally to dodge the barrage it would be pressing the required key to enable the boost then an additional key if setup for the specific direction to avoid or it would go with the joystick movement. with the hydra a player could tilt/roll both controllers in the direction to boost avoiding impact without having to mess with additional buttons/keys and this would be down to the players reflex to add that kind of in game immersion. along with this concept by configuring the boost to require both controllers tilted/rolled in desired direction would prevent mistaken gestures that could trigger the motion effect. that’s all dependent on the individuals playing posture though, so that should also be kept in thought.

also depending on hawken’s development, if the boost mechanic can go into full aerial mech combat. the hydra could take a whole new perspective along with an advantage. since there are 2 controllers it would enable control of the boost fins for precise aerial movements could even be unique to the players own technique, there are lots of possibilities if this implemented/developed for hawken. this aspect for the hydra comes from an experience i had with a mech and aerial fighter arcade station. these were 2 completely different games where the only thing in common between the 2 where the controls and the rotating/tilting/rumble seat. the controls were similar to the hydra as you might have guessed being 2 controllers with a whole lot less buttons. the view controller tilted the seat so looking up leaned me back and looking down put me forward, all in front of a massive display.

the future of the hydra all depends on you guys at sixense though because i honestly think the hydra, in the terms of the hardware approach used, will lead to virtual reality gaming with an already legitimate footprint in that direction.
yea im going there, haha check this, 2 hydra base stations with the controllers hardware developed into a gloves setup, additionally i would say a type of gyro device would need to be incorporated which would operate like the six-axxis, found in playstation 3 controllers, this would be for aligning a level plane so the magnetic sensors would respond/understand user gestures even more accurately and would be located on the palm area of the gloves. as for buttons depends in a sense, what about just putting light sensors in the finger tips (for this think of current cell phones and how if your outside the screen it gets brighter and the opposite if you go indoors with low light, that sensor). then the motion sensing would understand where the area has gone dark to translate into the specific function. a simple example for this would be a player pressing a virtual button located on his arm (motion sensed area from where the light sensor on fingertip/tips went dark) that would look like pressing a button in game on his armor/bracer/arm.

    completely do-able. =P

haha im looking at 4-5 years of school coming up for computer engineering so hopefully you guys jump on something like that before i do when finished up =]
so all in all, take this for what its worth with the potential and hopefully it'll spark someones interest

video eyeware that now displays 3d along with head tracking =P
my friend just showed me this from an engadget page.
wearing these while playing hawken with the hydra would be on another level with true entry into virtual reality gaming =)

We don't need any gyros or accelerometers, we can just use more trackers.

There was an amazing triple projector setup at the AMD booth (If I'm remembering correctly) at E3 this year, It was a seamless giant 180 degree curved screen and when you stood at the center of it your entire view including peripherals were essentially submerged in the environment.

Imagine just hooking the Hydra up to that and dual wielding melee weapons against a horde of oncoming enemies in 1:1. That's what I thought about when I saw it. Yes magnetic tracking virtual reality have many times been the subject of the water cooler conversation here in the office.

For Hawken, yes direct integration working with the developer would be awesome. But even with MCE control depending on the responsiveness of the booster/jets control it could be very cool. I'd use bumper if its a press and hold to boost like Armored Core then modify that for left and right with counter-clockwise/clockwise tilts of just the left hand. Both will become clunky, we've found when you enable a tilt gesture with a button press before hand it feels solid, reliable.

If it's a toggle to turn jets on/off it could still be neat, I'd like to at least see what the point-gestures would feel like controlling it.

You can always use our SDK for any project you want for school etc, it's open to everyone on Steam (Tools).

BE AMAZED http://www.mtbs3d.com/index.php?opti...12711&catid=35 this dude did it up

you guys should hire him asap since he coded up a ton of stuff to get it rigged up

if some wireless hydras are in the works this is a prime example of where the finesse the hydra offers in precision along with design to this setup would be key =D

Maybe the Sixense team can send the guy a free hydra? He's outstanding nonetheless, but hiring him might be a little too much. I'm pretty sure that the hydra can detect motion from around 6 feet, so wireless might not be completely needed.

First of all, sorry for thread resurrection, but I've just seen trailers.

Hydra seems to be just perfect for Hawken, especially as it's a PC game so asking for some extra controller API shouldn't be that great problem. I'd also be interested in hydra-gamepad emulation without extra software (unsigned drivers etc), so you could map Hydra movements to character movement in analogue fashion. Also, some people (including me) sometimes prefer using mouse in competitive games, so if you could provide left hand Hydra / right hand mouse setup too, it would be awesome.

So Hawken is now out... Pity they decided to hold of supporting Oculus Rift at launch.. but they have promised a path that will be available not long after launch.

So I'm interested.. does Hydra now support Hawken ? this looks like one of the best Mech games ever.. but I feel perhaps its fast paced action might look more like a blur across the screen. Most of the death match games are just too fast for V.R They tend to be tailored towards a mouse.. but gee, I sure hope I'm wrong
