Hi everyone,
I have been experiencing some problems with using the left controller for gestures..
Portal 2 works fine, but in other game like modern warfare 2 or left for dead 2 for example i am experiencing problems while trying to keep my left controller gestures under control.
Right hand aiming is no problem thanks to ratchting.. but my left hand controller cant ratchet and while i initailize the hydra controllers i cant see if it initialezed correctly in a neuturale position and thus when i enter a game i am ether constanly reloading or switching weapons or jumping or crouching or prouning depending on what is set to the gestures..
Only thing that seems to help is trying to find the postion it does nothing (the neutral position) which is usualy a odd angle for my hand and even then sometimes it changes and starts freaking out on me.. (making unwanted gestures)
I tryed lowering gesture sensitivity in the hydra configuration panel.. but i wont save.. the only setting it does save is how bright the light in the base station should be.. all sensitivity settings it will just reset back to medium when i reopen the screen.. but then again its not really the sensitivity which is causing this problem..
So far the only thing that i could think of to make the games playable is alter the control settings so that all left hand gestures are removed and replaced by button presses.. but thats is kind of defeating the purpose of the hydra motion control..

I agree.. playing Battlefield Bad Company 2 or Left for Dead 2....i had alot of problems with the gestures
Hey guys, if your cursor is steady and feels good then it's not jitter interference causing this. It's probably that your base frontal axis is not lined up with your play axis. I'm going to make a video right now explaining how to set this up and up it to Youtube.

This would probably help out alot yes, when you have done this please inform me/us about it so i can try it out.. thanks in advance for that.
It would also help out alot if the hydra control panel would be able to show us how the controllers are being tracked/are aligned at that moment in a 3d visual space so we actualy know that things are aligned correctly.. and make adjustments when needed.. now we have to pretty much guess it..
Video should be up within the next few hours. Tools are in the works to help users ensure their setup and tracking performance is optimal.

Alright nice looking forward to it..
Need a piece of gum to help you with that?
(when i see youtube video's in which you are in.. you are usualy chewing gum or something ;))

There is definitely some velocity noise in one of the controllers. If you the gestures are velocity gestures then try swapping the controllers. Set the controller in your right hand down in the left dock and the controller in your left hand down in the right dock. Then pick up the the left controller with you left hand and the right controller in your right hand.
By some miracle this will be a time when I was caught on video while not chewing gum. A proud moment. Video is uploading to Youtube now, I'll post a link here and to a sticky in the root of the forum. :)

Nice video does explain more on how to place the base station, because before this is was trying to make the razer logo face towards me which was wrong in most cases. i really didnt get this info out of the setup guide
So that pretty much takes care of the gestures for left and right i seem to be able to manage them more now when i keep my left controller in a parallel line with center line of the base.. still doesnt feel perfect but its way better now that i know about the axis..
Up and down however is still all over the place.. still cant make it jump/crouch and proune when i want to.. mostly when i enter modern warfare 2 or blackops (both games react exactly the same for me) it makes me go into proune mode and then i have a hell of a hard time trying to stand up..
I even have problems leaving the game and such at some point.. because my keyboard wont respond correctly..
my guess on that would be that because the razer is emulating so many keyboard commands the buffer will overflow and cause mayor input lag..
would also explain why the hydra is more responive the first few seconds and starts doing strange things after another few seconds
Any tips on why that would happen and how to prevent this?
*Btw Danny thanks for the tip i tryed swapping left and right controller, but i had the same effect both reacted the same way..

Additionally, I found the gesture is more controllable and accurate if I put my hands on the same height as the base when playing. Maybe you could try that too 8-)
The pitch angle reading from the controller shouldnt change based on the height of the base but rather whether or not the base itself is sitting at an incline.
The prone, crouch, and jump gesture angles sweet spots can vary from user to user. This is due to different players having different default hold angles. Some hold the controllers with their wrists sort of hanging downward while others may hold the controllers aimed up a little ways.
As of right now the best way to tweak these angles is to open the individual MCE and change the angle settings to your liking.
If you attach the MCEs you need to edit this on, I'm happy to repost the code and highlight what you're looking to change.
Your issue with not being able to leave games sounds unrelated to the Hydra. Can you verify you dont get this lag when the Hydra is not plugged in?

I have tryed to alter the mce abit more to my likeing by altering the following value
<binding>
<conditions>
<tilt_gesture>
<controller>P1L</controller>
<direction>down</direction>
<angle>20</angle>
</tilt_gesture>
</conditions>
<actions>
<key>
<which>c</which>
</key>
</actions>
</binding>
If i up this value abit more.. and also upping the value for prouning beyond that it does work better
I also will need to down the value for jump for it all to come toghter as well.
The thing is if you hold the controller and you can read the numbers on the buttons then your holding it in the neutral height postion as far as i can tell.. before this i was holding the controller so that the joystick would level out.. which in my view makes more sense when i am moving using the joystick, hence it was in a constant downward position
The uncontrolabilty on my keyboard is still something i am trying to figure out what is causing it.. because i am not getting this problem when the hydra is not in use but still plugged in or not in use and not plugged in.. Only after i have used it, it sometimes happens but i cant reproduce it in a solid way..
It does however also effect the button presses what the hydra should have been doing.. it skips them over or causes them to delay which makes it freak out sometimes..
but since i cant reproduce it in a solid way at this point.. ill try to do more research on it.. ill even try it with another keyboard see what happens.. I am currently using a logitech g110 usb keyboard
What i would like to know is if more people reading this experience the same issue..

Are their any plans in the works to fix the sensitivity issues with the gesture controls? Its nice to be able to do simple gestures but having them trigger sporadically especially during crucial moments is really irritating. And the angle values set in the mce. just don't seem to translate accurately. I find myself angling the base to try and compensate for seemingly sporadic changes in sensitivity in both the vertical and horizontal, though mainly the horizontal.
Yes, we have several things in development to make the left hand gestures as intuitive as possible.
I've only the Hydra for a day, but I've worked out a few things that helped me with my left hand gestures.
I originally had a lot of problems, specifically in Bad Company 2, with gestures triggering with very little movement of my left hand. swinging my knife and crouching all over the place :P It was likewise difficult to do the gestures that go in the opposite direction (reloading and jumping), making me think that my axis was skewed down and to the right somehow.
I made sure that my axis was aligned with the base station and on a flat service, as per the video, but turns out I was already aligned with it. I decided to try and go one step further and place the base station directly in front of me, instead of off to the side. This fixed almost all my problems. It finally took about the same amount of movement to trigger gestures in both left and right, down and up. I don't know if this is due to something near my desk distorting the magnetic field, but its worth a shot if you haven't tried it yet.
In addition, I noticed that I tend to hold the controllers angled a bit downward by default. I'm not sure if that matters, but something to consider if you have trouble crouching/jumping.
I also tweaked the Bad Company 2 MCE so that there were fewer left hand gestures (taking out the gestures for switching weapons, since the right analog weapon switching is perfect), which made it a lot easier to avoid unwanted gestures while still learning to use the Hydra.

I also seem to be having trouble with the left hand gestures, and I have tried editing the MCEs but it doesn't seem to help.
It looks like I naturally hold the controllers more downwards than the norm, and after some playtime I encountered the same problem of the controllers engaging crouch at only a slight downward tilt, whilst jump required a higher tilt than normal.
However, the other problem I noticed was with the counter-clockwise rotation required for reloading. When I tried to perform this gesture, the controller would constantly engage the switch weapon gesture, i.e. flicking the controller to the left. At this point I jumped to the MCE and edited the angles for up and down (crouch and jump), which fixed the issue there. I also changed the angle for reload to a smaller angle and the switch weapon angle to a larger one to try and separate the gestures. This seemed to help, but I found it was still not consistantly reloading and quite often performing what I thought was the same gesture started switching weapons again.
Am I doing something wrong? It feels like I might be subconsciously panning the controller when I make the rotation, but I haven't found a way to gain a sufficient middleground where both gestures work separately to each other. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as it is otherwise working perfectly! :D
